Dit gebied is van groot geologisch en botanisch belang. De bodem van lava werkt als spons, het houdt veel water vast. Ook stromen er veel\u00a0beken met\u00a0ijskoud water uit de Pyrenee\u00ebn en eilandjes vol varens en brandnetels. De brandnetels zorgen voor\u00a0een grote vari\u00ebteit aan vlinders. Hierdoor is het voor Spaanse begrippen een bijzonder groen gebied, waaronder een sprookjesachtig beukenbos.
